The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the approved programme for the residual elections in the Local Government Councils country wide.

While unveiling approved programme, the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu revealed that voting will take place in a total of 109 districts where voting didn’t take place due to various reasons.

“There are a number of areas in the Local Governments where voting did not take place during the general elections on account of either death of a candidate, violence or where there were no nominations among others. The Commission has therefore approved a program to ensure that such seats get their due representatives,” Kiggundu said.

The Commission will hold consultative meetings of the Returning officers with the Stakeholders on May 11, and nomination of candidates at Sub county, county and District headquarters will then take place on May 9 – 10.

“The nomination, campaigns, polling day for professional bodies in KCCA will take place on May 9; Returning officers will thereafter meet candidates to harmonize campaign programs and formation of liaison committees on May 11, 2016.”

He added that campaigns shall be held from May 12 to 29 while polling for regional representatives for older persons shall take place on May 17.”
