The Constitution Amendment No.2 Bill 2017 has Tuesday been tabled and read for the first time by Igara West Member of Parliament, Raphael Magyezi.

The contentious bill which brought a lot of chaos in Parliament last week will among others seek to amend Article 102 (b) of the constitution aimed at lifting the lower and upper presidential age limit.

“I beg to lay on table the Bill titled, “The Constitution Amendment Bill 2017 accompanied with the Certificate of Financial implications as provided under section 36 of the Public Finance Management Act 2015 our rules of procedure Rule 107,” Magyezi presented.

The bill seconded by several members of the House was then sent to the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee chaired the West Budama Independent MP, Jacob Oboth Oboth for perusal.

After consultations with a number of stakeholders, the committee will then issue a report which shall be discussed by the Parliament during the second reading of the Bill.

However, the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga ordered members to ensure that the general public is consulted on the bill since they have a stake.

“I want to remind you members that this matter touches Article 1 and 2 of the Constitution and the people must be involved in these deliberations,” Kadaga said.

The Bill has four prayers that will affect 5 articles of the constitution among which is Article 102 (b) on the eligibility of the presidential aspirant on lifting the age limit.
