MP Zaake: Gen Katumba’s Punch Nearly Killed Me

Butebi County MP Francis Zaake has described as “hard-hitting”, a blow rolled out by Gen Katumba Wamala that landed the controversial legislator on the floor of Parliament.

Katumba was photographed by newsmen this week as he punched Zaake during the MPs’ fist fight with security officials in Parliament.

The former Chief of Defence Forces tactfully presented himself as a pacifist after Zaake hurled a chair at security officials called into the Parliament Chambers to eject suspended MPs.

In a twinkle of an eye, Gen Katumba, who is currently serving as State Minister for Works, landed a hook on Zaake’s face, knocking him to the floor.

In a statement issued during the weekend, Zaake said he looked at Katumba as his role model.

“I have always been very grateful to my “friend” until 27th of September, 2017 when he almost ended my story on earth,” said Zaake.

“General Katumba Wamala you almost killed me, I am, but just a child to you. I owed you respect as a father, role model, mentor and most importantly as a friend that is why when you feigned to be calming me down indeed without hesitation I did so, little did I know that you were tricking me,” he recalled.

“I was only fighting in defence of my life against the brutal treatment from the strangers in the house. That is why a calming voice from “a friend” made me feel safe in your hands. You caught me unaware by hitting hard on my face,” he added.

“I fell down unconsciously, you went ahead to hard-hit again on the head of almost a dead person. Surely, the last blow was a finishing punch but thank God I am alive.”

Katumba has since explained what motivated him to act against Zaake.

“Because he was “serving ice cream” in form of chairs and destroying Parliament property in the process,’” said Katumba.

But Zaake said he had “forgiven” Katumba, adding, “It is only God who begins one’s story and therefore only him can end it when he deems it fit.”
