The State minister for Ethics and Integrity, Fr Simon Lokodo has urged Ugandans to join the efforts against pornography, saying the public should remain vigilant and desist from immoral acts that eventually lead to destruction of humanity.
Lokodo was Monday addressing a first of its kind stakeholders workshop organized by the pornography control committee at Hotel Africana.
“The Journey against immorality is still a tough one, so we still need to embrace and continue in the struggle to put to an end to this vice of pornography which is eating up our people most especially the youth,” said Lokodo.
The Minister recently appointed a nine-member pornographic control committee to prevent use or spread of pornographic materials and information.
About shs2bn is expected to be spent yearly on the committee, Chaired by Dr Annette Kezaabu Kasimbazi.
Lokodo also asked stakeholders such as media, police, Uganda Communications Commission, Uganda law society among others, to come up with a “systematic strategy” of controlling porn in Uganda.
Speaking at the same function, former Ethics and Integrity Minister Dr. Nsaba Buturo warned the anti-pornography committee of likely hindrance from “well-connected” porn merchants who might sabotage their work.
Testifying on how pornography had taken a huge toll on both his physical and mental health, a one Juma Seif, said he used to masturbate daily to pornography when he got exposed to it in his early years in high school up to university level.
“I masturbated for seven years. I could always walk out of class to urinate then allover sudden, I end up masturbating and one day as I was masturbating, I saw blood passing out of my private parts. Thanks to Makerere University fellowship, Prime Time; I’m now born again who has dedicated myself to help out those who are in this satanic act, “said Seif.
The director of religious affairs at the Directorate of ethics and Integrity, Rev. canon Aaron Mwesigye, tasked mainly the police and religious leaders to train parents and equip children with sex education which he said is lacking, thus moral decay.
Mwesigye went on exhausting the dangers of pornography among which include destroying society.
On this, he cited an example of Sodom and Gomora, the Roman Empire among others.
Father Lokodo in his concluding remarks, assured the public that he is willing to work with any person or organization towards bringing pornography to zero existence in Uganda.
