The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah on Tuesday blocked a plot to start the process of amending the presidential age limit.

Oulanyah revealed on the floor during the plenary, that a member approached him and requested to be given an opportunity to move a motion seeking to introduce a constitutional amendment today but he declined it.

“Yesterday, a colleague came to my office with the intention to get space for a motion to seek leave of Parliament to move a private member’s bill. Today I also received a member with a similar request,” Oulanyah said while chairing the house.

He however asked the unnamed MPs to wait for a consultation with the Speaker on Thursday morning before they can be allowed chance.

“I told them to wait for a meeting with the Speaker on Thursday. Their motion can only happen after the consultation with the Speaker and I,” Oulanyah noted.

On Tuesday last week 250 MPs from the ruling NRM and Ministers sat and resolved to move of a motion to introduce the amendment for removing the presidential age limit from the Constitution.

The motion was supposed to be moved by the Igara West MP, Raphael Magyezi on Thursday last week.

The arrangement was however postponed to Thursday this week to wait for the Speaker who was in the United Kingdom.

On Monday the architects of amendment plotted to hasten and move the motion today.

The matter is expected to cause uproar in the house as the antagonistic parties are promising to square out each other physically.
