FDC to Field a Candidate for Speakership… After May 12

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Gen. Mugisha Muntu has revealed that the party won’t be dragged into the issue of Parliamentary Speakership until the question of who forms the next government is settled on May 12.

The party is currently involved in preparations for a series of activities which they say are aimed at foiling the oncoming inauguration of President Museveni, who “stole” last February’s presidential elections.

Gen Muntu told press today that FDC would not waste time discussing who the Speaker of the 10th Parliament will be, since the power question isn’t yet answered.

“The issue of Speakership is all based on assumption since there is currently no ruling government determined. We shall deal that matter (speakership) after the bigger issue is resolved on May 12th.”

Muntu appealed FDC supporters not to give up on the quest to have an independent audit of the 2016 elections – for which a national demonstration has been organized by the party, amidst warnings from police.

The Leader of Opposition, Wafula Oguttu said during the press conference, “We don’t know who will form government yet but we must have a speaker anyway; the process going on so far is for NRM but we shall thereafter have to popularize our candidate from the position.
