Acting Tabliq leader Sheikh Yahaya Mwanje and six others charged with terrorism and the murder of Major Muhammad Kiggundu and his body Guard Sgt Stephen Mukasa, have been committed to High court for trial.
The accused are Sheikh Yahaya Mwanje, Buyondo Muhammed, Sendegeya Abdu Wahab, Sekandi Musa, Nyanzi Yusuf and Silaj, Kalyango Jibril.
These were charged last week before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani.
The seventh suspect Bruhan Balyejusa who is among the people charged with murdering the late AIGP Felix Kaweesi has been charged today.
State prosecutor Lilian Omara this morning asked to have the 7 committed as they wait for the eighth person who is currently in Luzira, to be charged.
“Investigations in this matter are complete; we pray to have the accused persons committed as we pray for a production warrant for the remaining accused person,” Omara submitted.
The trial magistrate issued a production warrant to the remaining suspect to be produced in court by tomorrow.
Prosecution alleges that Sheikh Yahaya Mwanje and his co-accused, on 26th November 2016 at Masanafu, Wakiso district killed Major Muhamad Kiggundu and his body guard Sergeant Stephen Mukasa
The six are also accused of rendering support to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terrorist organisation through recruiting terrorist. Three of the accused Nyanzi Yusuf, Bruhan Balyejusa and Kalyango Jibril, prosecution alleges, subscribed to the terrorist group between 2010 and 2017.
These have been remanded back to Luzira Prison.
