Judicial Officers Suspend Strike

Judges and Magistrates around the country have Wednesday elected to suspend their strike which had halted court business for nearly two weeks.

In a meeting held today attended by the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, Deputy Chief Justice Stephen Kavuma, Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwiine; the judicial officers under the Uganda Judicial Officers Association (UJOA) unanimously agreed to return to work starting this evening.

UJOA President Godfrey Kaweesa read out to the members government’s recent commitment to address their concerns and they agreed to suspend their strike.

The judicial officers however, gave government up to 11th December to fulfill its pledges which include offering each magistrate a double cabin vehicle, security guard, improving their housing facilities, harmonization their salary structure, medical insurance and providing them with office equipment.
