The Judiciary compiled and cause-listed at least 118 parliamentary election petitions to be heard in the 13 different High Court circuits across the country.
The Hon. Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwiine appointed 26 High Court Judges to hear the election petitions.
According to a statement from the Judiciary, “The hearing of these petitions will be held between May and June, 2016.”
Notable among these election petitions are Mr. Stephen Sekigozi Vs Mr. Peter Sematimba for the Busiro South seat, Mr Daniel Joseph Ibaale Vs Mr. Abdu Katuntu, Energy minister Mrs. Irene Muloni who lost the Bulambuli District Woman MP seat to Ms Sarah Wekomba, FDC’s Mr. Geoffrey Ekanya Vs Ms. Annet Nyaketcho and Mr. Sitenda Sebalu Vs the Electoral Commission.
ChimpReports understands hearing of petitions will be given priority over other cases and the High Court has three months in which to dispose them off.
“Those who will be dissatisfied can appeal to the Court of Appeal which is the last court to decide Parliamentary election petitions according to the amended electoral laws in the constitution,” the Monday statement concluded.
