National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman, Yoweri Museveni has urged residents of Kalungu to ignore lies being spread by the opposition leaders against the government, asking them to vote Richard Kyabaggu as their district chairperson.
The elections are slated for Thursday, August 31.
Museveni addressed two rallies on Tuesday in Kalungu Town Council and Lwabenge sub-county.
The President said Democratic Party and other opposition parties in the area had specialised in smearing the ruling party with “dirt”, a mission he, however, said had not given them any advantage.
He added that the DP he knew and served from 1960-1970 believed in telling the truth unlike the current one headed by Nobert Mao.
Museveni was also quick to ask opposition leaders to join NRM, a political party he described as the most successful in the history of Uganda.

His first campaign was in Kalungu West Constituency represented by DP’s Joseph Ssewungu.
About the fast spreading allegations that government had forcefully chased away people from Lake Victoria shores, Museveni maintained the government’s position to protect the lake against illegal fishing.
As a leader, Museveni said he won’t look on as the lake continues to lose its young fish.
On the escalating internal fights among the leaders in the district, the National Party Chairman pledged to find time and meet the concerned leaders.
In her message delivered by Mathias Kasamba, the East African Legislative Assembly representative; the NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba called for reconciliation among rivaling party members and shift focus on earning NRM victory.
Speaking at the same rally, Richard Kyabaggu, the NRM Flag bearer, said he had secured 47 acres of land for the construction of the district headquarters within a period of only 8 months he has been in office.

Kyabaggu further hailed the President for providing Kalungu with a set of brand new road construction equipment.
He pleaded to voters to cast their votes in his favor.
