A 44 year old UPDF Private who on 12th December 2016 lost his riffle on Mission in Somalia has pleaded guilty.
Pte Jogo Musa was deployed as a guard at Aljazeera Training School in Mogadishu Somalia.
Yesterday he admitted to losing his PK Machine gun number PK N 256729 with 150 rounds of ammunition to strangers, while he slept on duty.
Through his lawyer Elizabeth Nassimbwa, Musa presented a plea bargaining agreement where he voluntarily pleaded guilty.
“I have explained to my client all his constitutional rights regarding plea bargaining and he agreed to plead guilty,” the lawyer told the General Court Martial in Makindye.
In this agreement, Jogo says he lost the weapon because he had spent a full week on duty without rest.
He says on the night he lost the riffle, he had had asked his colleagues to stay awake so that he catches some sleep, but unfortunately all slept away.
Counsel Nassimbwa asked court to consider the period he has spent on remand, his remorsefulness and give him a lenient sentence
Captain Simon Maserejje on behalf of the prosecution accepted the agreement and asked court to use its discretion to hand him a sentence, considering that they had no previous criminal record on him.
Court martial chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti adjourned the case to 5th September for sentencing.
