The Court of Appeal on Monday maintained Paul Amoru as the Member of Parliament for Dokolo North Constituency.

On 8th July 2016, Lira High Court presided over by Wilson Musene Masalu nullified Amoru’s February poll victory over electoral malpractices.

The three judges of the Court of Appeal including the incoming and the outgoing Deputy Chief Justice Spephen Kavuma and Alphonse Owiny Dollo respectively, today invalidated the High Court decision and ruled that Amoru was the rightly elected MP.

The appeal’s court judges also ruled that Amoru’s rival, John Baptist Okello-Okello should meet the cost of both High Court and Court of Appeal.

The judges agreed with all the 8 grounds advanced by the appellant (Amoru).

The High Court had mainly based its July ruling on the allegations that Amoru on February 14 donated 15 bags of cement to Alenga chapel in Adok Sub County, Dokolo district and asked the church members to vote for him on the February 18 2016 general elections. According to Musene, Amoru faulted section 78 (e) of the Parliamentary Elections Act.

The Court of Appeal however established that the said chapel didn’t exist and all evidences were cooked by the Forum for Democratic Change’s Okello-Okello.
