The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have determined not to follow Friday’s Constitutional Court temporary injunction, which stopped their “Defiance campaign” and all activities related to it.”
As a matter of fact, the FDC Secretary for Mobilization Mrs. Ingrid Turinawe told Chimpreports this afternoon that the party will carry on with all its programs next week including the “Black Tuesday” prayers at their offices across the country.”
“We have already alerted all our members and party leaders in all districts; next Tuesday we are holding our prayers. No part of our program has changed,” she said in an interview.
Earlier in the morning she posted on Facebook that on Tuesday the Najjanankumbi Head offices would turn into the “new Namugongo.”
“I will be a martyr,” she said. “…Ready to die – killed on black Tuesday while praying in Najjanankumbi.
Last night when the news of the court injunction came out, an excited government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said he and the world was waiting to see whether or not FDC’s Presidential candidate Col. Dr Kizza Besigye would respect the courts of Uganda, “the law abiding citizen he claims to be.”
But Mrs. Ingrid told us on phone that they would not hesitate to defy the court ruling itself.
“Defiance is defiance,” she said. “There is no way we are going to abide by such an absurd ruling.”
“We cannot stand and watch as Kavuma overthrows the constitution. He has made history; the world will be appalled to hear that a Chief Justice banned prayers!”
The FDC chief mobilizer added that the other judges in the country should come out and condemn Justice Kavuma’s ruling.
The FDC party is expected to give their official stand on the ruling on Monday during their weekly press conference, but Ingrid says the decision would be to disobey this injunction.
“The party’s decisions are made by individual leaders and I am telling you that we shall not accept this ruling. I will defend this position until Monday when the party will pronounce itself.
Col. Besigye yesterday said the constitutional court injunction was in effect banning the very existence of the FDC party
