
Police in Mbarara is investigating circumstances under which a 94 year old man committed suicide in his house on Friday morning.
William Baikirwe, a resident of Kibingo cell Nyakayojo division Mbarara Municipality was found hanging on a rope in his house early morning. The locals told police that Baikirwe had recorded a statement on April 11th at Nyakayojo police post of attempted poisoning when the son warned to kill him as the father had refused to give him a land share.
According to the OCCID Mbarara police station Taban Chiriga, the deceased had earlier miss-understandings with the wife and his children who were suspected to have hanged the father.
William’s body was taken to Mbarara referral hospital and the postmortem report confirmed that he was first beaten and one of his ribs broken before hanging him on the rope.
The deceased has left a widow and more than 5 children. Police has arrested his wife Paulina Kenneza 48yrs and the son Alvas Mwine 19yrs who are suspected to have killed the old man in a move of grabbing his land.
Chiriga appealed to the public to always address their stressful matters at police instead of committing such crimes adding that the arrested will be taken to court and charged with murder. The case is registered under SD 40/28/04/2016.
