President Yoweri Museveni has commended the major role the late Brigadier Geoffrey Taban Kyabihende played with regard to the dividend of security and peace that Ugandans are enjoying today.

The President was eulogizing the UPDF officer last night when he joined relatives and friends at the deceased’s home in Kawuku, Bunga in Kampala to mourn the fallen Brigadier.

“I came here to salute the contribution of Kyabihende to the Army. When you see that Uganda is at peace and contributing to regional security and stability efforts, it is the work of these people who spent all their adult life fighting and protecting our people,” he said.

Museveni said that Brig. Kyabihende was one of the officers who joined the struggle when they were still young but played a special booster and multiplier effort.

He helped the struggle to recruit Bakiga to join the struggle.

“I acknowledge his contribution and encourage others to do good because society will always remember,” he said.

The President called upon the fraternity of the Front for National Salvation (FRONASA), the National Resistance Army (NRA) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to take care of the children of their deceased comrades so that their sacrifice to the country is not in vain.

He also called upon the youth to use their numbers to agitate for proper budgeting of state resources so that government is able to empower them through skills in order to ensure the creation of jobs.

Brig. Kyabihende passed on at Nakasero Hospital 4 days ago after a long battle against lung cancer.

At the time of his death, he was serving as Uganda’s military attaché in Kinshasa.

Born in 1961, he was among the first 100 NRA soldiers. He joined NRA in 1981.
