Six people have been nominated by the ruling NRM party to stand in the primaries for District (LC5) chairperson and Woman Member of Parliament in the newly created Rukiga district.
The nomination took place at the NRM party headquarters in Kyaddondo and was headed by party electoral commission chairman Dr Tanga Odoi.
The nominees are; Atukunda Abigail Victoria, Pamela Kyomugisha Kihumuro, Alice Basobokwe, and Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi for the district woman MP.
Dr Alex Kampikaho, a former contender for the Rukiga MP seat in the last elections and Denis Willy Nkwasibwe the former Kabale district youth chairman were nominated for the for LC5 seat.
Charity Tumubweine and Maureen Kyarisima are to be nominated on the second and last day on Wednesday.
Dr Tanga Odoi warned the aspiring candidates and these interested to desist from campaigns before the official time.
He says that official campaigns kick off on 10th to 14th August 2017 and the polling day will be 15th August 2017.
Also candidates from the other newly created districts of Bunyangabu, Pakwach and Namisindwa were nominated.
The general elections are to be held on 29th August 2017.
Rukiga was curved from Kabale district and has four sub counties of Rwamucucu, Kamwezi, Kashambya, and Bukinda and two town councils of Mparo and Muhanga.
