Mbarara district leaders have instructed their Members of Parliament to support amendment of Article 102 (b) of the constitution to remove the Presidential Age Limit.
The leaders, mostly District Councillors voted on this matter, during their ongoing retreat at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.
The development was confirmed by Mbarara Municipality Mp Michael Tusiime who is attending the meeting.

Removing the Presidential age limit was part of the resolution taken by Mbarara leaders in Kyankwanzi
The team of 160 leaders, led by the district chairman Capt. JB Bamuturaki included MPs, the RDC, Councillors, Technocrats and NRM cadres.
These departed for Kyankwanzi on Saturday July 30th.
The agenda of the retreat was supposedly to discuss resource mobilization for the western district.
They were not supposed to discuss the contentious age limit Bill, at least according to what they told reporters before boarding the buses.
Mbarara district Speaker Baramu Ndyaguma said, “That matter is purely for MPs; we have a lot of issues to sort out for Mbarara and that’s what we are going for.”
Before setting off for the trip, the leaders left behind up to 8 councillors, who were described as “rebel councillors.”
The leaders’ decision to back the removal of age limit was first revealed to us by an NRM insider who told us, “All Leaders of Mbarara have asked there MP’s to amend the Constitution to remove Age limit.”
The development however, comes only hours after the NRM Central Executive Committee, in a meeting termed the debate on the Age Limit as diversionary.
The CEC urged NRM members to focus now on the transition from President Yoweri Museveni.
