Police have arrested Andrew Okoth, a stores clerk in Kiwatule, Kampala who is suspected to have murdered his girlfriend.
Early this week, police discovered the body of 32 year old Fahima Natoolo, an employee of Tropical Bank of Africa, Masaka branch in a pool of blood after being murdered by Okoth in Mbalwa, Namugongo.
According to police, by the time the body was recovered, it had spent over 3 days in the house the two were renting.
It is believed that after a misunderstanding, the couple picked a fight and that Okoth stabbed Natoolo to death before locking her body in the house.
He would later drive to a nearby clinic to get treatment for wounds he sustained in the fight.
On Wednesday, Natoolo’s body was recovered in the house by police after being alerted by the security guard at the building.
Police mounted a hunt for the killer boyfriend until he was arrested on Thursday night according to Kira road DPC Michael Kasigire.
“We trailed him from 8:pm up to 12:10 am and we finally arrested him,”Kasigire said.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed the arrest.
“He was spotted by vigilantes who informed Kira road DPC Kasigire and we arrested him from Kiwatule,”Kayima said.
He added that Okoth was arrested together with another female suspect whom police suspects to be either an accomplice in the Mbalwa murder or his other girlfriend.
The DPC said further investigations will reveal more about the two.
“We shall look out for the possibility of the two having been involved in more crimes earlier, before the Mbalwa incident.”
Okoth is expected to face charges of murder .
