“Our goodwill is with the people of Teso and our gratitude to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President for granting Teso Sub region a public University. We pray that the new university council will open a new chapter of good relationships with the residents of Aputon and the political leaders of Teso. Soroti University Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. John Robert Ikoja in his speech commended President Museveni for sanctioning a Public University in Teso Sub region despite of what he termed as merger funding.

According Ikoja, Soroti University now stands in three buildings, with 45 staff members including support staff.
He further revealed that after the swearing in of the University Council, the University will begin to admit students and the grand opening is expected in October.
