Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, the Kabale Municipality Mayor has given Stone Construction Company two weeks to have completed work on three roads under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-USMID road project in the area.

The Company was contracted to construct Nyerere road (4.7km), Nyerere Avenue (4km) and Kigongi Road (1km) all in central division, at the cost of 13.56 billion shillings.

The project which was launched in April last year by Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda was supposed to be finished and handed over to the municipality at the end of April 2017 but the contractor failed.

An extension of three months was given to the company but still work is incomplete.

Byamugisha says if they fail to handover the project to the authorities in the remaining 15 days, they will be forced to pay liquidated damages to the Municipality.

When contacted, Stone Construction Company site Engineer Joseph Ofumbi blamed delays on weather, man holes and changes in road designs.

Eng. Ofumbi says that nearly 82% per cent of the work has been done and they are remaining with laying of asphalt on some parts of the roads, working on drainages and walkways, road marking, street righting and beautification among others.
