As Ugandans of all walks of life united today to help raise funds for Mrs. Carol Atuhirwe’s cancer treatment, Minister in Charge of President Hon Frank Tumwebaze was unhappy with those that chose to ‘politicize’ the event.
Frank was speaking particularly in light of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change members led by their presidential candidate Col Dr Kizza Besigye, who showed up in numbers at the car wash fundraiser at Panamera bar.
FDC members clad in black T-shirts with pictures of Dr. Besigye and other political messages were seen actively involved in the exercise.
Some of them decided to wash the police cars that were brought at the event.
Commenting on this development, Minister Tumwebaze said that those that took this path had ruined the cause.
He tweeted, “Such deserving charity causes get spoilt when turned into publicity seeking shows for politicians.”
Speaking at the event, Col Besigye described the fundraising drive as a “citizen empowerment exercise” where people come together to solve a pressing problem.
“Carol may appear to be one but the spirit of coming together as Ugandans to identify with a person suffering is just beginning.”
He added, “This expression of unity supports one’s mind to get over the problem; all of us identifying with Carol will give her life to go on.
The car wash was also graced by NRM’s Youth League who donated Shs. 5million.
