The South Sudan President, Salva Kiir is conspicuously missing in the high level Northern Corridor Summit taking place in Ugandan capital Kampala.

Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Paul Kagame of Rwanda converged at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Saturday to conclude and sign agreements reached at the summit that started on the 19th April 2016.

The Northern Corridor comprise of 4 countries Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan.
Only President Kiir was represented by his Advisor Isa Aggrey Sabuni.

The failure of Kiir to leave his country for Uganda coincides with the contentious arrival plan of the rebel leader, Dr. Riek Machar.

Kiir is expected to be present in Juba in the event that Machar arrives since the latter would subsequently be inaugurated as the First Vice President.

The Northern Corridor is handling mainly development projects in the joint interest of all the four countries.

The biggest project is so far is the multimillion dollar Standard Gauge Railway being constructed from the Kenyan port city of Mombasa to Uganda and South Sudan.
