Makerere University Council has considered 12 names for the positions of Principal and Deputy Principal in different colleges of the oldest university in the country.
The meeting was held on Thursday June 29, and the unanimous decision was derived from the recommendations of the University Senate on the Report of the Search Committee.
Among the recommend is Prof. Edward Kirumira who was also competing in the vice chancellor race, but lost to Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe along with Prof. Venancius Baryamureeba.
Prof. Kirumira retains his position as the Principal for College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) and he will be deputized by Dr. Josephine Ahikire.
Ritah Namisango, the university public relations officer, says the only advertised positions were those where the contracts were either coming to an end or had ended.
“The University only advertised the position of Principal and Deputy Principal in the Colleges where current contracts for the respective positions were coming/had come to an end.”
This is the second time the university is selecting principals and deputies since its adoption of collegiate system in 2012.
