Police have today used excessive force to contain protesters in the Kyadondo East by-election.
While Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Frank Mwesigwa urged restraint, some officers were seen pressing protesters’ private parts.
“This is very absurd,” said Morris Kikomeko, 26, a boda boda rider in Kasangati.
“This type of force used against unarmed civilians is unacceptable,” he added.
However, most of the protesters who faced the police wrath tried to resist arrest.
Some demonstrators were seen kicking cops and hurling insults.
Cops were compelled to drag the unruly protesters away from crowds for detention.
Some supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, alleged that a resort in Kasangati was being used to hide pre-ticked ballot papers.
Police refuted the rumour, saying it was aimed at stoking tensions in the election.
