Former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Public Service Minister Henry Muganwa Kajura has dragged government to the Commercial Court, seeking payment of Shs. 3.5billion as   compensation for his piece of land in Masindi district which he says was taken by the government for road construction.

In this application before court, Kajura sued the Attorney General and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Uganda Limited.

The land in question is on Plot 85; Block 3, at Bahanguzi in Kyangwali.

Kajura contends that the said land was assessed for compensation by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development at sh3.5b and a report was made to the permanent secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development but up to now he has never received any payment.

The minister says the respondents’ actions have made him to suffer mental anguish, pain and inconvenience and therefore deserves to be compensated.

The court Registrar Thaddeus Opesene has given the two respondents, the Attorney General  and CNOOC 15days to file their defence  before Justice Christopher Madrama can fix a hearing date.
