A 21 year old former fighter with Mai Mai militia group in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been arrested by police in Kanungu with a gun.
Alex Byamukama is now a Chapati maker in Kihihi trading center but had trained with the armed group at Nyakakoma village in the DRC.
He told police that he escaped with the gun SMG rifle number 6114 which he confessed he has been using for poaching in the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesman confirmed the arrest of Byamukama who was nabbed read handed poaching in the park with the gun that had five rounds.
Maate says that the other two of his associates with whom he has been poaching, one a former game ranger with the park managed to escape and are being hunted by police.
