Tragedy hit Kamuli District on Saturday morning after an Asian staff member of Kamuli Sugar was murdered in cold blood.
According to Moses Kizige, the area Member of Parliament for Bugabula North and State Minister for Karamoja, the deceased was killed while on his way to Kibuye where they (Kamuli Sugar) have a sugarcane plantation.
He has only been identified as Stalum, 35, who has been the contact person with the district for the on-going road works in two sub counties of Kagumba and Balawoli with fuel being provided by Kamuli Sugar.
Hon. Kizige revealed that Police had made some arrests in connection to the gruesome murder, calling on members of the public with any information to provide it to the police to enable investigations.
He said that the deceased was involved in a land wrangle and that the case was already filed in High Court.
“There is an outstanding land wrangle and matters are before the High Court in Jinja. The act of murder was uncalled for,” he said.
Stalum has been described as supportive member of the Kamuli society who cared for the needs of others.
“Yesterday he delivered five (5) 96 page exercise books to each pupil in Kibuye and Kagumba Primary schools. The books were donated by Kamuli Sugar and bear the portrait of Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga,” said one of the residents.
“His death is going to traumatize all pupils in Kagumba and Balawoli sub counties who are using these books,” he said.
Stalum is survived by a wife and a three-weeks-old child.
