It is still unknown what the two leaders discussed at the meeting which was described by the press assistant as a Kabaka’s ‘courtesy call’ to the President.

Nabusayi says the Kabaka was escorted to the State House by his Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga as well as Prince Wassajja.

A State House Statement said Museveni and his guests “discussed pertinent and strategic issues on to development and national interest.”

Dispite restoring the Kingdom and other cultural institutions which had been banned by President Milton Obote, Museveni has not been at the best of terms with the monarch, whose kingdom is largely opposition dominated.

King Mutebi was last hosted at State House in September 2009 in the wake of the deadly Kabaka riots, that erupted after the king was blocked from visiting one of his counties.

In 2013, President Museveni made an unprecedented appearance at the King’s 20th Coronation anniversary at the Kings Headquarters in Mengo, shortly after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the King, which according Museveni “dealt with the issues some people who like to recklessly fish in troubled waters have been using regarding some issues including the former masaza-magombolola estates as well as the harmonization of the rights of the indigenous cultural groups in Buganda.”
