Police in Rukungiri district is investigating circumstances under which a 50 year-old suspect committed suicide on Wednesday in Rubabo police custody.
The deceased is Johnson Muhekyi, a resident of Rutoma B, Nyarushanje Sub County in Rukungiri District.
He was detained on 25th March 2017 on allegations for murdering a two month old baby, but on Wednesday morning he was found dead in police cells by the cells guard who were checking on them.
According to police, the suspect told fellow inmates that he would not accept to be jailed for an offence that he did not commit.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region spokesperson says police have commenced the investigations in the matter.
