Residents in Njembe Village, Rukiri sub-county in Ibanda district are panicking after huge cracks developed on the mountain they live.
One of the residents Patrick Byaruhanga told Chimpreports that he and fellow residents spotted the cracks weeks ago but none of them has decided to evacuate because they have nowhere else to go.
He added that officials from the district visited the area and advised the locals to leave but no one intends to move, and leave behind their homes, farms and other economic activities.

Byaruhanga says some of the residents believe that government has plans to take away their land when they leave.
There were also unconfirmed claims that black smoke was spotted billowing from the cracks when they had just emerged. Others claimed they saw water coming from the cracks and that it tasted different from normal water.
When reached for a comment, Ibanda District Chairman District Melichiadis Kazengye confirmed that they requested the residents to move from the area but they were adamant.
