President Yoweri Museveni has said that people who orchestrated attacks and killed innocent people in the western Rwenzori Region in the past weeks will not be shown any mercies, but will face justice for their crimes.
Museveni who has been on a four day trip to the Rwenzori emphasized on Tuesday that the people implicated in the attacks should expect no amnesty.
The President was today addressing the press on the situation in the Rwenzori region in which close to 50 people including government security personnel have lost their lives and hundreds fled their homes.
Yesterday, Museveni met with both the King of Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere and that of the Bamba King Lt. Col. John Kamya as well as political leaders in the area.
He revealed today that during these meetings, he talked about others issues such as fostering development and resolving land conflicts but not forgiving the perpetrators of the attacks.
“I came here to implement the law and not to forgive criminals; there is nothing to discuss about security. I’m not going to discuss whether a rebel should be killed or not,” stressed the President. “If you kill a person, you will be charged for it.”
The President noted that there was no away he was going to pardon people who butchered innocent people including woman and children.
“If you attack someone’s home, cut a woman, cut a child, you have not only murdered them but also committed crimes against humanity and you will be handled accordingly,” he stressed.
Museveni however revealed that he did pardon those involved in the attacks on UPDF officers in 2014, because these “were ignorant peasants”
