Parliament has Tuesday nominated and approved a team of 20 legislators to constitute a verification committee that will vet and process all members that have expressed interests to represent the country in the East African Legislative Assembly.
The committee was nominated by the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and approved by the entire house which will also conduct elections for the 9 successful candidates.
“We have been undergoing the election process for EALA, we are required to elect a new team before the end of 90 days of the term of the current team; so by 6th March, we must have conducted those elections, gazetted them and also reported to the secretariat in Arusha,” Kadaga addresses the house.
Kadaga said, “As part of the process, I want to inform you of my proposals of the verification committee which is provided for in our rules of Procedure since there are members who are independent of any political party.”
So I want to nominate the following; Beatrice Rwakimari as the chairperson, Rose Mutonyi (Bubulo West), Rose Ayaka (Maracha), Florence Namayanja (Bukoto East,)Wilson Nokrach (PWDs Northern), Emmanuel Ongientho (Jonam), Jessica Ababiku (Adjumani), Moses Balyeku (Jinja West), Alex Mungoma (Bulambuli County), John Bosco Ikojo (Bukedea County) and Maureen Osoru (Arua).
Others include; Moses Bildard Adome (Jie), Sam Lyomoki (Workers), Mwine Mpaka (Western Youth), Safia Nalule Jjuuko (PWDs National), Onegiu Biyika (Ora), Rukia Chekamondo (Kapchorwa), Geoffrey Macho (Busia Municipality), Santa Alum (Apac), Aol Betty Ochan (Gulu).
The Speaker noted that the committee shall consider the nominees and all applicants independent of any political party organization and shall consider the requirement of Article 50 of the treaty is full filed.
The Committee is expected to conduct elections upon the successful candidates on February 28 in the house.
