Last evening, Rwenzururu Kingdom officials who call themselves veterans and architects of the Yiira Republic were kicked out of a stakeholders meeting held ahead of today’s anticipated release of King Charles Wesley Mumbere.
The elderly officials were blocked from attending the meeting between clan leaders, chieftains, native chiefs, Cabinet Ministers and the youth structures of the western Kingdom.
The veterans were accused of admitting to President Yoweri Museveni weeks ago that they were pushing for the creation of the Yiira republic, before asking for forgiveness
Clan leaders threatened to boycott the meeting if the veterans stayed. They stressed that the veterans should be disbanded from mixing into the matters of the Obuisinga Bwa Rwezururu.
Thereafter, according to the Kingdom spokesperson Clarence Bwambale, the meeting carried on smoothly and a number of issues were discussed, among them the need for government work directed with clan leaders and chieftains to “avoid opportunists who parade themselves as clan leaders to steal money from government.” They noted that this was a source of conflict.
“During the same meeting a status update was given on the progress on the release of the King and other subjects in Prison. The Clan leaders were assured that come tomorrow the 6th Feb, the King will be given bail and the screening will start immediately to have those considered innocent released immediately,” said the Kingdom spokesperson.
The officials were also informed that discussions are going on smoothly between President Yoweri Museveni, the IGP Kale Kayihura, the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecution and that this was showing good progress.
Meanwhile the officials appealed to government to consider conducting a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for the families of the people affected by the insecurities in the Kingdom since 2012.
