Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has tasked government to give a ‘convincing explanation’ regarding the miraculous resurfacing of Christopher Aine, the security coordinator of Go Forward 2016 presidential candidate, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.
Aine yesterday handed himself to President Yoweri Museveni’s brother Gen Salim Saleh, having disappeared mysteriously last year in December.
“First, now that Aine has been found by Gen. Salim Saleh, Amama Mbabazi has been exonerated of all the accusations and the task is on government to explain where exactly he was,” Lukwago noted while addressing the media at his offices at Media Plaza in Kampala.
“Personally, I wasn’t taken up by Aine’s issues, his disappearance was as dramatic as his return; the myth of Aine is a tip of the melodrama in this country,” Lukwago said.
Aine revealed yesterday that he escaped police arrest from his house and hid himself before escaping to Dar-es-Salaam.
But Lukwago observed that none of these explanations was satisfactory, noting that even his family members; the manner they reacted to the news showed that they were acting.
“It’s good that Aine is alive but I wasn’t convinced; this is something choreographed, scripted and acted. Government owes Ugandans an explanation as to how they got him and we are keenly waiting to see the action to be taken on him.”
Lukwago further noted that the developments as they occurred could not have been sheer coincidence.
“The Supreme Court dismisses the court case, Besigye gets released from his house prison and now Aine resurfaces! Let’s stop this drama because people elsewhere have lost their lives and are still dying, Kasese being a case in point.”
