At least one person died on spot and 16 others sustained serious injuries in a car accident that occurred in Ibanda town near the University Bodaboda Stage along Bitature Road.
The accident involved a commuter taxi number UAX 598B which overturned several times and smashed into a commercial building at around 11:30am yesterday.

All passengers were from Kyaka in Kyegegwa district and were heading to Mbarara.
Deo Ishungisha the Officer in Charge of Traffic in Ibanda district said the taxi driver lost control due to a mechanical problem.
However, eyewitnesses attributed the incident to careless driving and over speeding by the taxi driver.
The injured including a pregnant woman were rushed to Ibanda Comprehensive Medical Centre in Ibanda
The unidentified driver escaped unhurt after the accident and fled the scene according to police.
The injured that were not identified by publication time were admitted at Ibanda Comprehensive Medical Centre in Ibanda town including a pregnant woman who was in critical condition.
