Uganda was Thursday evening treated to shocking reports of the resurfacing of former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s aide Christopher Aine, who went missing at the close of last year.
It was for months claimed that Aine was picked up by police from his residence in the heat of election campaign violence.
Mr Aine was presumed dead by many people, after a picture of a dead body with his remarkable semblance appeared in the media.
Today, Mr Aine reportedly came out and took himself to UPDF’s Gen Salim Salim Saleh, seeking to be pardoned by Government.
He said he escaped police arrest and went into hiding in Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania.
Several people were in disbelief as the news started spreading over social media.
Some demanded that he and his former boss Amama Mbabazi apologize for misleading the country.
“John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and team owe Ugandans an apology,” Said NRM’s Don Wanyama “They stooped so low with false propaganda”
One Rugamba Henry tweeted, “Maybe all those who claimed Aine was dead should get into chorus and sing ‘He Rose, He Rose He Rose.”
Woman activist Jacky Asiimwe was also hilarious, “I guess in keeping with the Easter spirit, Christopher Aine, an aide to Hon JPAM, who was feared missing or dead, has ‘risen’”
But some other people were not in much surprise.
Journalist and political analyst Andrew Mwenda boosted of how he did predict that Aine was alive and well. He tweeted, “In January I said Christopher Aine was alive. I was almost crucified. Now he has shown up. What will my critics say? I’ve resurrected him?”
Amama Mbabazi’s presidential campaign team also spoke out on the miraculous reappearance.
“Welcome back, Aine,” tweeted Go Forward’s communications director Mrs Josephine Mayanja Nkanji. “You know I owe you a couple of kicks on the backside but “all’s well that ends well”
Some other people had expectations going forward, “Now that Christopher Aine has handed himself in, I’ll wait for confessions from some political leaders,” tweeted Lawyer Hussein Kashilingi.
Others however, would not buy the story, and maintained that this was all set up by government.
One tweeted, “Two weeks ago, the IGP said that they were close to capturing Aine. He forgot to say that the indoctrination course was almost over.
