Post Bank has suspended for three months its Mbarara Branch Business Growth Manager Joseph Mibazi and reportedly fired Robert Mumpe, the Assistant Manager Credit over customers’ credit.
The bank last week came under fire amid allegation by one of their clients that he had lost his Shs. 7million to the bank.
A team from the Main branch in Kampala is expected in Mbarara to investigate the sprouting controversy.
Genesis
In February 2014, one Betty Natukunda went to Post Bank and acquired a Sh 12million loan using her car, a minivan number UAP 575S, as collateral. She was to repay the loan in 2 years.
At the time, one Ronald Nsamba was the Loans Officer and Hebert Niwagaba was the Assistant Manager Credit; but were later transferred to Kabale and Kamwenge respectively.
At the end of the two years however, Natukunda disappeared with the car.
With the help of her guarantors, she was hunted and later located at her hideout and the car was towed to the Post Bank parking yard.
It was put on auction through Excel Auctioneers and Aaron Nduhura bought it at Shs 7million.
He was handed the car with the photocopy of the Log Book and promised that he’d soon get the original.
However, Nduhura discovered later through URA that there was a caveat by UGAFODE Microfinance Bank in Mbarara where Mrs Natukunda had also got a loan using the same van.
Nduhura says Post Bank Officials kept playing hide and seek when he asked for the original log book, until he decided to personally inquire from URA.
Last Monday, while parking the van opposite Independence Park on Mbarara-Ntungamo road, UGAFODE Bank court bailiffs came and took it away.
He says he went to the Post Bank Business Growth Manager Joseph Mibazi and gave them one week to have returned his money.
“I went and told the manager but up to now I haven’t gotten any response from them,” he said.
According to sources at the Bank, Mr Mibazi was found to have negligently handled the matter, and last week he was suspended.
When contacted for a comment, he denied the claims that he sold a car with questionable papers to a client, and blamed his colleagues of witch-hunt.
