
The Rukungiri Grade One Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest against the former Rukungiri LC5 Chairman Charles Byabakama Kwebangira.
Magistrate Josephine Nakato ordered the arrest of Kwebangira on Tuesday, after he failed to show up in court where he is accused of criminal trespass and injuring his brother over land.
Court had been told by the prosecution led by the Rukungiri Resident State Attorney Peter Rukundo that on 30th October 2016, Byabakama, while at Kanyamutwe village in Kebisoni Rukungiri assaulted and harmed his brother David Kwebangira over a family land dispute.
Byabakama and his brother David Kwebangira, a retired UPDF solider have had long term disagreements over land left behind their deceased father.
When the accused failed to show up for the hearing today, State Attorney Rukundo asked court to issue a warrant of arrest against Byabakama, saying that this wasn’t the first time; which was granted.
Byabakama served as the Yumbe RDC before being elected Rukungiri LC5 chairman but in the February 2016 elections to NRMs Anderson Katebire.
