Buganda Kingdom Premier, Peter Mayiga has urged opposition to accept defeat in the recently-concluded elections and move on instead of stoking tensions that could cultivate ground for a political conflict.
“I urge the public and everyone who participated in the election to to accept the Supreme Court’s ruling,” said Mayiga on Monday.
“Winners and losers should remain calm and consider what the court has decided,” he added.
Mayiga spoke at the Lukiiko convention at Mengo in Kampala.
The highest court in the land last week ruled that President Museveni was validly elected.
Former premier Amama Mbabazi had petitioned the court to annul Museveni’s election, saying the electoral laws were flouted and tallied results manipulated in the latter’s favour.
But court said Mbabazi’s claims were groundless due to lack of evidence before dismissing the case.
Opposition groups have since refused to accept the judgement and vowed to proceed with acts of defiance.
Mayiga said Ugandans should now work for development ahead of the next elections.
He also told winners not to bully losers as this can spark riots hence bloodshed.
Mayiga is the highest ranking official in the Kingdom after the Kabaka. His remarks are perceived as Kabaka’s views.

Meanwhile, Buganda lawmakers discussed a report on human trafficking which His Majesty the Kabaka called for immediate intervention.
In the same Lukiiko, the new Kabaka’s representative to England and Northern Ireland, Ronald Fredrick Luyinda Lutaaya was sworn-in and the occasion was led by the state minister for finance Richard Mukasa Mulema.
In his address during Mayiga said more focus will be put on the reconstructing of the Kasubi Royal tombs.
He said despite the presence of funds collected through Etofaali fundraiser, more money is still required to finish the activities – urging well-wishers and Baganda to continue donating towards this cause.
Katikkiro urged people to bring local materials needed in the rebuilding exercise such as reeds and grass for thatching purposes.
All these will enable in re-innovating the faded reeds and grass.
