President Yoweri Museveni on Friday told the Members of Parliament from his National Resistance Movement party that he was “absolutely in charge of the country” and that no one was going to be given chance to destabilize peace.

The President who has been quiet for weeks since the insecurity rocked the nation including the gunning down of Muslim cleric, Maj. Mohamed Kiggundu and the Kasese clashes that claimed over 100 lives, finally spoke out, enraged about the developments.

Museveni said he has been patient and disregarding many things for a long period but time had come for him to act and stop some people he did not mention, from disrupting the serenity that was brought in place by his led administration.

“I have been ignoring many things and patient enough with some people for some time and all have been taken for granted by the same characters. Let me assure everyone here that I am totally in charge of the country and no one will get a single opportunity to interrupt the peace NRM has achieved,” Museveni said according to a source who asked not to be named since she is not allowed to speak for the Caucus.

Museveni stressed to the ruling party legislators that it was a big sacrifice to bring and consolidate peace and should be jealously protected.

When contacted on phone, the NRM Caucus Vice Chairperson, Solomon Silwanyi confirmed the development saying the President’s remark was perfect since peace and security is the bedrock for economic development that all Ugandans need.

“The President clearly reminded us that the peace being enjoyed today is result of great struggle by the NRM government. That was a perfect remark since peace is significant for development that our people are yawning for,” Mr. Silwanyi said.
