President Yoweri Museveni has passed out a total of 86 tank company commanders who completed a 22 week training session.

Museveni officiated at the event held at Karama Armored Warfare Training School in Mubende District.

The commanders were sourced from the Armored Brigade, the Special Forces Unit and the Motorized Infantry Unit.

Museveni expressed optimism at the event that besides warfare, the skills of tank forces will benefit other industries such as car manufacturing.

The President has for months been pushing for a car assembly plant in East Africa, which he believes with reduce of the excessive expenditure on car importation.

“We are tired of importing cars. We want to assemble them here. Once we take that move, these skills will be used in motor assembly not only in Uganda but also in the region,” said the commander in chief.

Museveni urged the graduates to protect themselves from alcoholism, prostitution and avoid contracting HIV.

He also commended the commandants of Kabamba Military College and Karama Armoured Welfare Training School for conserving the environment and barring people from cutting trees for charcoal.

The best performing students included Major T.N Achidri, Captain D.K. Ahumuguzibwe and Lance Corporal Godfrey Nsamba.
