One person died on spot and four others were critically injured in an accident that occurred along Kabale-Kisoro road yesterday.
Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region says the accident occurred at around 10pm at Mubwindi in Muko sub county, Rubanda District.
The deceased has been identified as Grace Asiimwe a resident of Bukinda, Nyakanengo ward, in Muhanga Town Council while the injured are Elias Turyamureeba18, Alex Natukunda, 23, Andrew Kamugisha, 27 and Sarah Mbabazi a resident of Bataka cell, Kirigime ward in Kabale Municipality.
He says that the accident occurred when Davis Karegyesa, the driver of a FUSO Lorry registration number UAU 031N that was transporting Irish Potatoes from Kisoro District to Rubaare in Ntungamo District with passengers on top, failed to negotiate a sharp corner in Mubwindi and rolled several times.
The injured are admitted at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital while the deceased is at the same hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Maate attributed the accident to over speeding and the driver’s failure to respect traffic rules as the vehicle was overloaded. Immediately after the incident, Kamugisha, the lorry driver took off.
