A 15 year old girl died on spot after she was hit by a stone hit while quarrying stones at Burambira Local Stone Quarry along Kabale, Kisoro road in Kijuguta ward, Northern Kabale Municipality.
The deceased has been identified as Promise Akatwijuka a resident of Karandagazi cell in Kagarama parish, Bubaare Sub County, Kabale District, who according to residents, was working in the quarry as a gravel pounder.
Witnesses say a one Charles Niyonzima accidentally stepped on rock while cutting a tree on the upper side of the slope, and it rolled down, hitting the girl on the head.
Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region says that the body of the deceased was taken to Kabale Hospital for autopsy.
He says that Niyonzima is being held at Kabale Police Station for questioning on why he did not caution those quarrying stones downhill.
