The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party on Tuesday failed to turn up for the Interparty Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) meeting with the FDC party president Gen. Mugisha Muntu.
The IPOD council under the chairmanship of DP’s Secretary General, Mathias Nsubuga began on a campaign of meeting all IPOD party presidents seeking their opinions on different issues.
The issues to be discussed include the composition of new Electoral Commission, the funding system of political parties, the post election period and other issues that need the intervention of all IPOD parties.
On Thursday last week, the IPOD council met Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) party president Jimmy Akena at Uganda House; and were today meeting FDC’s Mugisha Muntu in Najjanankumbi.
Despite NRM being represented in the UPC meeting by James Tweheyo, a CEC member, no NRM member attended today’s meeting.
“Yes NRM hasn’t been represented in today’s meeting, we received an apology from the party leadership that all the leaders that are attached to IPOD were out of the country,” noted Mathias Nsubuga when asked to explain NRM’s absence in the meeting.
“The NRM Secretary General, Justine Lumumba is out of the country as well as James Tweheyo who attended last week’s meeting,” Nsubuga added.
It should be remember that in July, FDC also snubbed the IPOD meeting with President Museveni at State House Entebbe and strongly criticized other parties that attended the meeting.
