Government has penalized Plinth Technical Works limited for failing to complete Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-USMID project in Hoima Municipality.
Plinth technical works limited was contracted by government to implement the World Bank funded USMID project, focusing at expansion and repairing the potholed roads, street lighting and beautification of Hoima town.
The project started in February last year after the government wired Shilling 10.34 billion for the first phase on Municipal account.
The initial contract expired in February this year. However, the contractor failed to beat the deadline and asked for an extension which was granted up to May 2016. The contractor again sought for an extension until August, but to date work is still incomplete.
In a phone interview with Chimpreports, the Hoima Municipal town clerk Peter Matsiko says the contractor was given 100 days contract extension which he is implementing under ‘Liquidated damages’.
Matsiko adds that should the contractor fail to complete the road works in 100 days which expire in December, the contract will be terminated.
Meanwhile Ambrose Mwesigye, the Hoima deputy resident district Commissioner says the delayed project has caused anxiety among the people living in town.
