The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has called upon the Ugandan Business community to partner and use their ports while transporting their cargo from the coast so as to strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
Speaking to the Press at the Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala on Monday, the Director General Tanzania Ports Authority, Eng. Deusdendit Kakoko highlighted the authority’s readiness to deal with Ugandan business community in transporting their Cargo once it reaches the Eat African Coast enroute to Kampala.
“Am calling upon the Ugandan business community to use our ports especially Dar es salaam and Tanga ports so as to cut transportation costs and increase efficiency. As the TPA we are prepared to keep improving on the services so that our clients benefit from reduced costs,” said Kakoko.
He observed that there is substantial commercial and trade opportunities between Uganda and Tanzania and the key to its success is having stable and cheaper transport network.
“We are ready to serve the Ugandan community both in times of prosperity and in times of challenges that is why we want to serve you at reduced costs. We believe once the oil pipeline has been constructed the ports will be able to double the trucks handled which will lead to increased trade between the two countries,” Mr Kakoko added.
