The Nakifuma County Member of Parliament, Eng. Ssekitoleko Kafeero has been given a security convoy and unspecified numbers of armed personnel.
The security was provided to the legislator even before he moved the motion for the private member’s bill to increase the retirement age for justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court.
The same Bill also wants the restricted two terms tenure of the Electoral Commission Chairperson to be removed and as well give opportunities to the citizens who didn’t participate in the presidential election contest to petition the Supreme Court against the declared results.
ChimpReports has learnt that the directorate of police in charge of Parliament availed Ssekitoleko with a convoy days prior to the introduction of the Bill and on August 25th when it was finally tabled, the MP arrived at Parliament with a convoy to the amusement of officers at the gate.
“We thought a third Deputy Prime Minister had been quietly appointed when we saw the convoy,” an officer who preferred anonymity said.
Ssekitoleko confirmed the development when contacted and said he is under big threats including kidnap.
“There were plans to even kidnap me before I moved the motion to introduce the Bill on the floor of Parliament. The security that had the ‘tip’ even before I approached them, thought it wise to give me
protection,” Ssekitoleko said.
It is now understood that security has been deployed in both Ssekitoleko’s home in Kampala and village in Kayunga district. His movement is also now managed by the provided security detail.
