Uganda Premier League defending champions KCCA football club have joined Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) in the campaign to sensitise the public about road safety.
KCCA FC have supported this year’s safety campaign to the tune of 1.5M shillings that will help in creating awareness about the increased road carnage cases.
Julius Kabugo, the club chairman while handing their contribution to USPA on Wednesday at Phillip Omondi said the club is willing to offer support to social cause.
“We are privileged to be part of this cause. We are aware that accidents have claimed many lives, so as a club, we found this campaign helpful to society as a counter measure against road accidents so we decided to join USPA in this movement,” said Kabugo.
USPA Vice President, Aliguma Ritah who received the cheque on behalf of USPA thanked KCCA for joining them in the bid to eradicate road accidents.
“We do appreciate KCCA FC for joining us in this noble cause campaign. It is about the lives of our people and very important to sensitise the nation about road usage,” she said.
This will be the 13th year that USPA will be conducting in the road safety campaign in commemoration of the four sports journalists that perished in a road accident in Lugazi along Jinja road in 2001. These included Kenneth Matovu, Leo Kabunga, Francis Batte Junior and Simon Peter Ekerot.
The campaign is expected to start on 13th September with painting Zebra crossings in Kampala then a memorial service on 14th September at Christ the King Church. The activities will end with sensitisation campaign in Buwama along the Masaka Kampala road.
