The Chinese embassy in Uganda has on Monday donated equipment worth millions of shillings to help the police force run their day to day work.
The equipment handed over to the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura at a function held at the police headquarters at Naguru included 200 smartphones, 10 motorcycles, 5 laptops, mattresses, 8 balls and jerseys.
The Chinese Ambassador Zhao Yali said they were indebted to the police force and government at large for their efforts in ensuring peace and stability which he said is key to development and flourishing of Chinese businesses in Uganda.
“The equipment can help police in terms of capacity building as they continue to keep law and order. The successful management of the society needs to be enhanced and this can only be done through empowering of government agencies like police,” Yali said.
“Our government will continue asking investors and businesses to invest in Uganda to boost development as the country strives to reach the middle income status by 2020 and also realize the vision 2040.”

Gen. Kayihura applauded the Chinese embassy for being good friends to the police and the country at large which he stressed will bolster development.
“Others claim to be concerned with us (police) but continue throwing mud and rubbish at us. I thank you for helping us build systems that will help integrate the police force into the life of people and help fight crimes,” Kayihura noted.
“The equipment is a big boost in this era of technology and our efforts to optimize it.”
He said these can be used to fight terrorism, cyber-crime and other forms of crimes in the society.
